In just under 5 minutes of active preparation time, you will create a special dish with rich flavors, made entirely using your air fryer!
This Air Fryer sausages recipe is the ultimate comfort food and the perfect solution for an easy yet special dinner!
The truth is, with air fryers, we’ve entered a vicious cycle where, thanks to speed and convenience, we’ve lost all creativity. We cook foods that are tasty and quick but lack the sense of home-cooked meals that we have learned to love.
I’m not saying chicken nuggets and fried potatoes aren’t nice, but how much can we eat just this type of food? So, I found myself looking at a sausage and some potatoes, thinking about what I could make in the air fryer that wouldn’t resemble a fast-food portion. How would I cook them if I didn’t have the fryer? And then the idea for this recipe came to me. Sausages with caramelized onions in balsamic vinegar accompanied by air fryer mashed potatoes!
How to make mashed potatoes in the Air Fryer
Start by washing the potatos. Wrap them in aluminum foil, and bake them in the air fryer, according to the instructions given below in the recipe card. To reduce cooking time, choose medium-sized potatoes. Otherwise, use whatever size potatoes you have, adjusting the cooking time accordingly. Potatoes are ready when you can easily pierce them with a fork.
To keep the mashed potatoes warm when served, let them in the aluminum foil and start preparing them 5 minutes before finishing the sausage in the air fryer.
To easily peel the potatoes, rub them vigorously with your hands while still in the aluminum foil. From there, follow the same process for making mashed potatoes as with the classic cooking method.
Sausages with caramelized onions
For the making the sausages, the process is very straightforward. Slice the onions and add them to an air fryer (or oven) safe dish. Add the ingredients for caramelization and cook for 10′. Then add the sliced sausages and cook for an additional 5′! Ideally, choose sausages without strong and strange flavors to complement the taste of caramelized onions.
See the detailed ingredients and steps for executing the recipe in the card below.

Instructions
For the mashed potatos
-
Wash the potatoes thoroughly, dry them using kitchen paper towels and wrap them in aluminum foil.
-
In a preheated air fryer cook for 25' at 200°C. Depending on the size of the potatoes, if they are larger, increase the cooking time until they can be easily pierced with a fork.

Once they are ready, remove them from the air fryer basket and set them aside wrapped in aluminum foil to keep them warm until the sausages are ready.
-
Start preparing the mashed potatoes 5 minutes before the cooking time of the sausages is completed.
-
Rub the aluminum foil with your hands to make it easier to peel the baked potatoes. Remove the potato skins and mash them with a fork or a potato masher. Add butter, milk, salt, pepper, and nutmeg, and mix well until you achieve the desired consistency.
For the sausages
-
Cut the onions into thin slices.
-
Place them in a dish suitable for air frying (or oven baking), add the balsamic vinegar and sugar.

-
After 10 minutes, add the sliced sausages to the dish and cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring halfway through the cooking time.
-
Serve with mashed potatoes or alternatively with french fries.
